Falcons defeat earns Okon the boot

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday sacked the coach of the senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, Edwin Okon, and replaced him with his former assistant, Christopher Danjuma on an interim basis.
Danjuma replaces coach Edwin Okon, who led the side to a seventh African Women’s Championship (AWC) crown in Namibia in October. The ex-Rivers Angels coach’s contract ended at the ended after Nigeria’s group stage ouster at the FIFA World Cup in Canada.
Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, speaking in Abuja on Saturday, expressed gratitude to the Okon-led technical crew, saying: “they did well to reclaim the African Women Championship.”
He continued: “The contract given to the crew has elapsed with the Women’s World Cup in Canada. Mr. Christopher Danjuma will now take over the team in acting capacity, pending the appointment of a substantive coaching crew, which process is ongoing.”

Danjuma will take charge of the Falcons against Equatorial Guinea in a 3rd round qualification match for the Women’s Football Tournament of the 2016 Olympics, billed for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The first leg comes up in Port Harcourt on Saturday, 18th July and the return leg in Bata on 2nd August.
Anyansi-Agwu assured: “The NFF will provide everything that the team needs to succeed.”
