Falcons defeat Senegal, qualify for Nations Cup
Defending champions, Super Falcons, on Tuesday qualified for this year’s African Women Cup of Nations after defeating the Terenga Lioness of Senegal 2-0 in Abuja.
A goal in each half by Rita Chikwelu and Osarenoma Igbinovia gave the Nigerian side the victory despite a penalty miss by Arsenal Ladies striker, Asisat Oshoala, in the first half.
The team however qualified 3-1 on aggregate after they were forced to a 1-1 draw in the first leg played in Senegal on Friday.
Ebere Orji missed a glorious chance in the 18th minute of the game when he failed to connect a pass from Oshoala.

The Super Falcons were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute but Oshoala’s spot kick hits the bar and Orji’s rebound also went over the bar.
Chikwelu however gave the team the lead in the 36th minute to send the few fans at the stadium into ecstasy.
Igbinova scored the second goal a minute into the second half from Oshoala’s assist while the Senegalese coach was sent off by the referee.
All efforts to increase the tally proved abortive as the game ended 2-0 as the team progressed to the finals to be hosted by Cameroun later in the year.
