Faleke says failed Melaye recall project signifies rejection of Gov Bello

Following the apathy that greeted the verification of signatures exercise for Senator Dino Melaye’s recall, the Ikeja (Lagos State) Federal Constituency Reps member, James Abiodun Faleke, has lampooned Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

He said in a Twitter message that the failure of the recall project was not just about Melaye but was a clear open rejection of the Yahaya Bello led state government of Kogi.

Faleke was reacting to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s) Saturday, conduct of verification exercise to recall Melaye in 552 out of the 560 polling units in the seven local government areas that make up Kogi West.

The exercise, recorded a low turnout of voters with no polling unit recording up to 50 per cent verified signatures of the total names on the register.

Melaye, representing Kogi West at the senate was admitted at the intensive care unit of the National Hospital and also placed on arrest by the Nigerian Police, after he tried to evade arrest.

In some council areas, electorates were said to have protested against the exercise after finding out that their names were mysteriously included in the purported signatures on the recall register.

In his reaction therefore, Faleke, who was the running mate to the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2016 election in Kogi, late Abubakar Audu wrote: “The recall project has failed. The people won. The outcome today is not just about Dino but the open rejection of the Yahaya Bello led state government.

“Even in detention, @dino melaye defeated them. Clear sign that Yahaha Bello is very unpopular in Kogi state”.
