SERAP wants CCB, ICPC to prosecute Dep Speaker Lasun over alleged N1.1bn water contract scam

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf on Monday expressed his readiness to take legal action against the speaker of the ECOWA parliament, Cisse Lo over an allegation that he didn’t attend ECOWAS plenary after collecting payment.

Lasun, however claimed there has never been a time he requested payment, nor was he paid, even as he threatened legal action against the ECOWAS secretariat if they fail to retract the statement in a few days.

Recall that Cisse Lo, in his closing remark at the ECOWAS session in Abuja last Friday had said that Nigeria’s Deputy Speaker and other members of the nation’s delegation to the plenary received full payment without attending plenary.

However, the Deputy Speaker debunked the allegation, expressing his disappointment over the statement.

Speaking through his Press Secretary, Mr. Wole Oladimeji, the Deputy Speaker, who also doubles as first Deputy Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament stressed that if by Thursday the Speaker and the secretariat fail to retract the claim, he would proceed to the court.

“By Thursday, the Speaker and the secretariat should be expecting legal action, should they fail to retract the claim,” Yusuff said.

He said: “I have been out of the country since two weeks ago. I was worried and embarrassed that the speaker could go dirty at plenary to make an unparliamentarily remark about my person.”
