Sen Dino Melaye kidnapped

Dino Melaye who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) was absent in court today (Monday), forcing the court to adjourn his trial.

He has been charged on allegations that he provided false information.

Presiding Judge, Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of an Abuja Federal High Court adjourned till January 28 for further hearing.

Counsel to Melaye, Olusegun Jolaawo had pre-infomed the prosecuting counsel, Shuaib Labaran of the absence of the senator in court today.

Jolaawo said the continued detention of his client had stopped him from appearing before the court.

“Because the court does not take to speculation, the defence team had obtained a certified copy order of the FCT High Court by Justice Yusuf Halilu on January 9, ordering the remand of the senator in Police custody,” he said.

Shuaib had charged the senator representing Kogi West on a two count charge of giving false information to the police.

He alleged that the defendant in April last year pointed accusing fingers at David Onoja, the Chief of staff to Kogi State Governor, as the mastermind behind his attempted assassination.

The Senator is currently being held in police custody over allegations of illegal possession of arms.
