Fani-Kayode won’t go home soon, as Court affirms EFCC can detain him

EFCC delaying release of home-sick Fani-Kayode, aide alleges
A Federal High Court in Apo, Abuja, on Wednesday struck out Femi Fani-Kayode’s suit challenging his arrest and detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation‎ for the 2015 election, had over filled a fundamental human rights enforcement suit, seeking an order to release him from the commission’s custody.
The anti-graft commission arrested him in respect to allegations relating to diversion of funds meant for arms procurement to political campaigns.

Fani-Kayode, a former minister for Aviation reported to the EFCC and has been in detention  for 51 days, having been taken in precisely on May 9,


Delivering judgment on the suit filed by Fani-Kayode, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi held that the suit lacked merit, saying that his detention was not illegal as it was backed by an order of court.
He nonetheless, faulted ‎the action of the EFCC for arresting and detaining a suspect for the purposes of investigation.
Fani-Kayode was arraigned alongside a former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, who was the Director of Finance of the campaign organisation‎ and others, for alleged involvement in money laundering before a Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday.
