2017 BUDGET: Stop spreading lies, Senate warns Fashola

Nigerian Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has been described as a failure and has been asked by Campaign for Democracy (CD) to, within 30 days either improve the deteriorating electric power situation in the country or resign.

The group also suggested that the Federal Government isolate Works and Housing ministries from the Power ministry and appoint someone else to oversee the two ministries while Fashola concentrates on power alone.

It argued that this will allow the former Lagos State governor to channel all his energy only on power, which according to it, remains the most essential need of every average Nigerian.

The group said the poor electric supply across the country, most especially in the South East zone, demands urgent action by the ministry of power.

CD said this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Dede Uzor A. Uzor in Onitsha, Anambra state on Friday, insisting that Fashola has so far miserably failed to increase the megawatt from 4,320 he met since appointed a minister.

The group frowned that the minister of power rather than increase, has allowed the megawatt to decrease to less than 1,000, adding that under his leadership of the sector, Nigeria recorded zero megawatt on January 30, leading to a total nationwide power blackout.

It then gave Fashola 30-day ultimatum to ensure pre-paid meters are provided for all Nigerians, especially in the South East part of the country.

It further urged the minister to assist in checkmating estimated and crazy bills on poverty-stricken Nigerians.

CD said if that is not done, the recent prediction of the United Nations (UN) that Yemen, Sudan, Nigeria, Syria and other countries would face acute food shortage in the near future, will certainly come to pass in the country.
