Father remanded in prison custody for raping 17-yr-old daughter

One Basiru Adeyanju is to cool his heels in prison custody until October 2, 2019 on the orders of an Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti for raping his 17-year-old daughter.

Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde gave the order on Tuesday after listening to the argument of the parties, ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison and adjourned the matter till October 2 for further hearing.

Adeyanju, a resident of Irona in Ado Ekiti, allegedly raped his teenage daughter on September 10, 2017. He is facing two counts of rape and attempted rape contrary to Section 358 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C16, Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

The suspect however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Leading the legal team from the Ministry of Justice, the Ekiti State Attorney General, Olawale Fapohunda, called three witnesses, including a medical practitioner, Dr Temitope Olasende, who testified that the victim was truly raped.

According to him, the victim was brought to him after the alleged defilement on September 11, 2017, adding that “the medical history and investigation on her showed that she had been with her father since two years after her parents got separated.”

The medical expert, in his testimony before the court, said the medical report revealed the victim’s outer vagina was bruised, but she tested negative to the HIV.

Counsel for the defendant, Adeyinka Opaleke, observed that the victim was reported to have been taken to hospital on September 11, 2017, while the medical report was dated January 28, 2019.
Olasende however informed the court that the report was issued based on request.
