Fayose instigated PDP crisis for selfish ambition, Kashamu alleges

Senator Buruji Kashamu has insinuated that the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Kashamu was a major force that led to the long-drawn crisis that hit the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recently.

The senator representing Ogun East, suggested that Fayose stoked the crisis in efforts to control its structure in the south west, and as a precursor to his ambition of contesting for president.

Buruji in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, noted: “I said it when the leadership crisis started that Fayose orchestrated it to pocket the party’s structure in the South West and make it easier for him to realise his ambition. Since he cannot imagine a life out of politics and power, few days after the Supreme Court judgment, he launched his so-called Presidential campaign.”

According to him, Fayose and Senator Iyiola Omisore, the party’s governorship candidate in Osun state, are planning to destroy the PDP in South-West, even as he accused both men of being behind the crisis rocking the party in the zone

He counseled leaders of the party, including the “National Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, not to allow Fayose and Omisore to spoil their efforts to unite the party and reposition it.”

Kashamu who boasted that none of them has the capacity to drive him out of the former ruling party, also accused an aide to Governor Fayose, Lere Olayinka, of spreading misleading report about his party membership.

The senator reiterated his membership of the PDP and said that nobody can push him out.

“But as for me, Fayose and Omisore cannot push me out of the PDP. They do not have what it takes. I am not going anywhere.

“I remain a strong mobiliser for the PDP and one of its leaders in the South West. That is why I cannot close my eyes to impunity and injustice.”

Kashamu while reacting to speculations that he may be on his way out of the PDP, further said that he had since the Supreme Court judgement brought an end to the protracted crisis in the party, congratulated the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the PDP.

The speculations followed the defection of some members of the PDP said to be loyal to the senator. The members four days ago joined the Mega Party of Nigeria in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The senator called on all aggrieved party members to unite and work with them in the overall interest of the party.

On his claim about Fayose’s aide he said, “I wish to state without mincing words that the misleading report linking me with the move was concocted and spread on social media by Mr. Lere Olayinka, who is an aide of Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose.”
Kashamu is being perceived by some members of the party as one of those loyal to the deposed party national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
