Federer moves a step closer to claiming 100th ATP title

Roger Federer has reached the semifinal of the Dubai Championships, thereby standing just two wins away from claiming his 100th ATP title.

The Swiss defeated Hungarian world number 35 Marton Fucsovics 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 in one hour 57 minutes to advance to the last four.

Federer, who is aiming for an eighth title in Dubai, will, if successful, become just the second player to win 100 singles titles after American Jimmy Connors, who won 109.

20-time Grand Slam champion Federer, currently seventh in the world, will play Borna Coric or Nikoloz Basilashvili in the semis.

Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet Frenchman Gael Monfils in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, Federer already holds the record for the most titles at the Dubai Tennis Championships having been crowned champion seven times.
