FG blames miliancy for lack of development in Niger Delta

The Federal Government has identified armed conflicts and militancy as the main factors that have held down the development of the oil rich Niger Delta.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Mrs Lauren Braide, said this in a statement by the Deputy Director of Press of the ministry, Stephen Kilebi on Wednesday.

Braide spoke at a sensitisation and enlightenment programme for peace in Niger Delta in Port Harcourt.

The Permanent Secretary was represented by the Director of Special Duties, Mr Laurence Adigwe.

Braide said: “Armed conflicts and militancy have severely compromised the provision of basic services and access to food and income-generating activities as witnessed in the recent past. I therefore urge all to embrace peace to achieve development in the region.

“The essence of this gathering is to institute a culture of dialogue among our numerous stakeholders in the region with a view to ensuring that the much-desired sustainable peace and stability become a reality in Niger Delta.”
