FG deploys security operatives to monitor fertiliser shipment

Published

Some officials of four security agencies have been deployed to monitor the volume of fertiliser leaving the port daily.

The officials were selected from Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Department of State Services (DSS) and National Security Adviser (NSA) to check fraud and other risks associated with the imports.

It was gathered that government has realised that the substance could be used to manufacture bombs and other explosives.

A source at JosepDam terminal at Tincan Island Port told New Telegraph that Phosphorous and Potassium (NPK) and Muriate of Potash (MOP) could be hijacked by terrorists to produce bombs.

The source, who does not want his name mentioned for fear of being punished, said that every truck lifting fertiliser was attached with either a soldier or state security agent.
