FG to inject N9bn into agric in South-East

The Federal government, through the Bank of Agriculture is set to pump in a whooping N9 Billion to encourage youths and women farmers in South- East Nigeria.

The move, which is also aimed at boosting food security as well as provide employment, is targeted at rural settlements.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Agriculture, Kabir Mohammed, explained that, “You must know that there are a lot of women in the rural area that are involved in agriculture in the south- east zone and presently, our intention is to make sure that our activities are extended to them.

“I want to say that we are looking at youth unemployment which is a global phenomenon and we are committed and have projects targeted at improving employment rate in Nigeria. We want to use agriculture to get the youths engaged thereby reducing youth restiveness drastically”.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director, Partnership and Strategy, Dr. Gabriel Okenwa, revealed that the Federal Government’s strategic focus on the agriculture sector is geared towards producing more food for the citizens and a lot more for export.

“I must say that Nigerians are very hard working and resilient people and with the strategic re-focus in Agriculture now, all hands should be on deck – We will produce enough food for the people and have more for export, and I must say that the Federal Government is doing a lot in Agriculture.”

Who told you that the South East wants to farm? We need our own country Biafra country. They should save the money

If the federal government decides to let you people start Biafra, do you think the country will last? If you’re familiar with the prodigal son’s story, that’s how Biafra’s story will be, you you people will never be celebrated when you return to be part of Nigeria again.

I pity you, you better go look for land and start farming so your life can be meaningful. Biafra is just a mere nomenclature

The only way out of poverty in Nigeria is to invest so much in agriculture and make petroleum an alternative. Agriculture is a win win for Nigeria, food will be certain and foreign exchange will be guaranteed. If Nigerians can feed well, other things will fall into places.

The government should go beyond the South East and spread the tentacles to all region. Agriculture should be the our mainstay and not petroleum. Enough of food importation in Nigeria, we can manufacture our own food and even export instead of importing.

Lol. That’s just a wish. Agriculture can’t be Nigeria’s mainstay again. Crude oil rules the world economy. But am not discouraging government from investing heavily in agriculture because we need diversify the economy.
