FG intervenes in Aero workers' fate

The Federal Government has intervened in the plight of workers of Aero Contractors who were sent home by the airline on indefinite leave.

Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, assured that they would not lose their jobs.

The workers, who were sent home on indefinite leave after the airline announced the suspension of scheduled services effective from September 1, had embarked on a protest at the head office of the company in Lagos.

Sirika gave the assurance when he paid an unscheduled visit to Aero on Friday, where he addressed the protesting staff.

According to the minister, government was bent in encouraging existing businesses and to provide jobs for the populace.

Sirika said: “The primary purpose of government is to help to promote, nurse, sustain, develop, keep businesses so that they can continue to provide services and employ our people. So it is not the government of APC that will kill jobs and close down shops. Our intent is to promote jobs and promote businesses in Nigeria so that businesses will be growing.”

He also asked the protesting workers to go home till Monday when he would return wih a feedback after meeting with Aero, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON and other stakeholders.

“We will look into your demands, and come out with solutions that are mutually beneficial to the staff, management and the government,” Sirika said.
