FG meets Boeing, plans to set up a new carrier

The Federal Government has met with Boeing, an American aircraft manufacturing company, even as it plans to set up a new national carrier for Nigeria.

The Federal Government’s meeting with the aerospace company was part of its resolve to establish a new carrier.

Hadi Sirika, Minister of State for Aviation, disclosed this in his latest tweet via his official Twitter handle, @hadisirika.

According to him, “This afternoon, in my office, I met with the Boeing team in furtherance of our resolve to set up a New Carrier soon.”

Although, the minister did not mention if the federal government had resolved to partner with Boeing to set up the new airline.

But Sirika had in November 2017 said Boeing, which is a leading aircraft manucfacturing company in the world, had indicated interest in the nation’s national carrier.

The minister had also said in one of his tweets that the government was ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Boeing at the Third International Civil Aviation Orgamisation (ICAO) World Aviation Forum in Abuja.

Earlier, he disclosed that Airbus of France had indicated interest in partnering with the government on the proposed national carrier and the establishment of the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in the country.

“Airbus signified interest in out National Carrier and our MRO. Will discuss further during the upcoming ICAO forum,” he said.

The new national airline is expected to support vital sectors of Nigerian economy to catalyse economic growth and development.
