FG to open portal to gather data of unemployed Nigerians

The Federal Government of Nigeria has said it will by Wednesday April 5 begin online registration of unemployed citizens in the country.

National Directorate of Employment (NDE), deputy director, information and public relations, Edmund Onwuliri, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, explained that the exercise was targeted at ensuring that up to date data of unemployed Nigerians are collected and known by government.

According to him, with NDE’s “mandate to obtain and maintain a data bank on unemployment and vacancies in the country, the exercise would enable the directorate to serve as a clearing house linking job seekers with existing vacancies in government agencies and the private sector.

“The online portal which goes live on Wednesday April 5, 2017, is designed to capture the relevant details of any unemployed person. It will equally serve as a job exchange portal that will link job seekers and employers,” Onwuliri disclosed.

He further said that a practical demonstration of the workings of the portal will take place at NDE stand at the ongoing 28th edition of the Enugu International Trade Fair on Thursday.”
He revealed the portal’s address as:

Describing the initiative as a bold step towards deepening the effectiveness of its employment creation strategies and a critical input into the process of designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating programmes and schemes, Onwuliri added that the online portal would henceforth serve as a meeting point for job seekers and their prospective employers.

This is a welcoming plan. At least when the indices of unemployment is known, it will serve as template for government to finetune how to allot vacancies for the teeming youth especially the graduates.

I see no good in this initiative at all. Knowing the number of unemployed youths is easy but creating job for them is the basic.
Provides job and not portal for registering unemployed people on the basis of knowing the figures.

You can never see good in good things because you are not good and you don’t choose a good life. Am sure you are jobless so if you like, register and if you don’t like, don’t register . And people like you will always be the first to register but like to discourage people

This will only happen if those in charge of the platform don’t start manipulating things. There are several frauds that can erupt, especially online. Let’s just hope they will be truthful with the platform

This isn’t the greatest initiative of all. A government that is ready to do everything to provide employment for its people deserves the best from them. May God bless this government
