FG pays whistle-blowers N375.8m from N11.6b recovered loots

IMF speaks on relationship between Nigeria’s tax base and infrastructural needs

The Federal Government says that 20 persons who gave out information that led to the recovery of some stolen monies have been rewarded with N375.8million.

This was disclosed by the director of information, Ministry of Finance, Mr Salisu Dambatta in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, sequel to the Whistle-blower Policy of President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, the informants got the payment from N11.6 billion government recovered following their useful information.

He also said that the payment was just for recovered assets that had been declared free of legal disputes or litigation by the Attorney-General of the Federation.

He said, “This payment, which is the first under the Whistleblower Policy, underscores the commitment of the President Muhmmadu Buhari-led administration in meeting obligations to information providers under the Whistleblower Policy.

“The policy is an essential tool in the fight against corruption.

“The Ministry, therefore encourages all Nigerians with information on misconduct, violation or improper activity which can impact negatively on Nigeria to report it to the appropriate authority.”

Dambatta said that the Federal Government before making the final payments to beneficiaries, ensured that taxes were deducted.

    This is unbelievable, the federal government deducted taxes from the monies paid to whistleblowers. Nigeria is now desperate to be making more money on anything legal

      It’s a must to pay tax. At least the compensation is to encourage other whistle blowers to blow more whistle about corrupt people so we can recover more funds not that they deserve it

    This isn’t a big deal, the federal government promised to compensate the whistle blowers and it’s keeping to its promises, there’s no need to broadcast how much it has paid them

      This administration abuses the media a lot, the government takes reasonable and unreasonable things to the media. I see no reason explaining to the masses whistle blowers are cashing out, it make sure no sense to me

    #376m to #11bn, it’s not a bad pay for them. But how many are they so I can know the amount each is to get?
