FG plotting chaos, forceful takeover of Rivers in 2019-- Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has alleged that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal government is planning to cause chaos in the state ahead of the 2019 governorship election so as to pave the way for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to take over the state.

Wike made the allegation as a guest on Channels Television Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday.

He said, “They (APC) don’t want election, they want security to help them to rig. In Rivers State, what they have planned in 2019 is to make sure that for governorship election that there will be no election.

“They want to chaos, commotion and then the election will be postponed and after the elections in other states have been concluded, they will now draft security from other state to make sure Rivers State is taking by all means.”

Also speaking on the number of presidential aspirants in the PDP, the governor said it was good for the party because “the more the merrier in politics so you have alternatives”.

He rejected the notion that the number will tear the party apart, saying, “If you believe in the party you don’t leave because you lost an election.”

Wike insisted that there are moles as presidential aspirants in the PDP planted by the APC to destabilise the party.

“There are those (PDP presidential aspirants) who are serious, those who want to advertise themselves. and those who are planted. I know those who are serious, those who just want to participate and those planted by the Federal Government to destabilise the PDP.

Asked how to identify those planted in the party, the governor said, “By their conduct you know them. When people make statement, I’m a member of PDP, when I make a statement you should be able to know if I’m working for the interest of the party or not.”

He added, “Presidential election is not an all comers’ affair, so we know those who are serious. For the fact that they come to Rivers State to say I want to speak with some delegates does not mean they are serious. We know those who are serious.

“As I’m speaking to you, as at yesterday, there was as meeting of some aspirants and the ruling party to make sure our convention fails.”
