Treasury looters will soon have their days in the dock as President Muhammadu Buhari said on Sunday that the prosecution of those who tampered with the revenues of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) under previous administrations would soon commence.

Buhari stated this during a meeting with President Xi Jinping of China on the sidelines of the ongoing 70th United Nations General Assembly holding in New York.

“The prosecution of those who misappropriated the NNPC’s revenue under past administrations will soon commence,” the president said.

He, however, did not mention the names or the number of the suspects and neither did he give a specific time for their trials.

The President, who said he was determined to fully sanitise the oil sector and free it from corruption and shady deals, added that he had already taken the first necessary step by appointing a new management team led by Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu for the NNPC.

He thanked Jinping for China’s ongoing assistance in curbing crude oil theft from Nigeria, specifically the interception of shiploads of crude oil stolen from the country which proceeds would have ended up in private accounts.

An African adage says the hunter who wants to catch a patridge must be very swift,

otherwise he will go to bed hungry for many nights.

Its common sense to expect that all those connected with the looting would have been setting their corrupt houses in order, given the amount of noise thats been made about the issue and body language of PMB.

I think its time this government earnestly commence the prosecution and arrest of those involved in the oil sector corruption… otherwise it might be too late.
