FGGC PTA, school management in alleged N28m fraud

A crisis is slowly brewing at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Oyo over allegations of  fraud and official extortion leveled against the PTA and management of the school, to the tune of about N28 million.

A source at the institution revealed to Ripples Nigeria that management of the FGGC, Oyo State, in connivance with the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) has been allegedly syphoning exorbitant amounts as PTA level every term from parents without disclosing the amount accrued and how it is being spent.

According to the source, the money collected is in the region of N28 million.

“Not even a single building has been fully erected courtesy of the PTA. The collapsed fence which was as a result of heavy downpour is still calling for government attention to be completed and even after investigation, I found out that the so called PTA teachers who are being employed to settle the backlog of government teachers are being paid peanuts,” he said.

He alleged that the PTA makes life unbearable for any student, whose parent refuses to pay the illegal fees as at when due.

He gave a breakdown of monies collected and unaccounted for in 2014/2015 as follows:

JSS1 (New intakes) paid N22,000 (first term) as at 2014/2015 and wit a total number of 289 pupils = N6,358,000.

2nd term =289 X 4,500 = N1,878,500

3rd term =289 X 4,500 = N1,878,500

Total 9,226,000

JSS2 TOTAL NUMBER OF PUPILS = 310.

1st term = 310 X 4,500 = 1,395,000

2nd term = 310 X 4,500 = 1,395,000

2nd term = 310 X 5,500 = 1,705,000

Total N4,495,000.

JSS3 TOTAL NUMBER OF PUPILS = 253.

1st term 253 X 4,500 = 1,138,500

2nd term 253 X 4,500 = 1,138,500

3rd term 253 X 5,500 = 1,391,500

Total N3,668,500.

SS1 TOTAL NUMBER OF PUPILS = 326.

1st term = 326 X 4500 = 1,467,000

2nd term = 326 X 4500 = 1,467,000

3rd term = 326 X 5500 = 1,467,000

Total N6,357,000.

SS2 TOTAL NUMBER OF PUPILS 237.

1st term = 237 X 4,500 = 1,066,500

2nd term = 237 X 4,500 = 1,066,500

3rd term = 237 X 5,500 = 1,303,500

Total N3,436,500

SS3 TOTAL NUMBER OF PUPILS 233.

1st term = 233 X 4,500 = 1,048,500

2nd term = 233 X 4,500 = 1,048,500

3rd term = 233 X 5,500 = 1,281,500

Total N3,378,500

GRAND TOTAL = N28,931,500

“The FGGC PTA levy has now been increased to 6,500 and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it was been paid into the chairman’s personal account up till 2015/2016 (1st term) session.
