FIBA WWC: D’Tigress beat Argentina, to face Greece in Q’finals qualifier

Nigeria women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, earned their second win at the ongoing FIBA Women’s World Cup by defeating Argentina in their final group game on Tuesday night.

It was a historic night for the Nigerian ladies, who defeated the Argentines 75-70 to become the first African team to win two matches at the global showpiece.

They kicked off their campaign with a disappointing 86-68 loss to Australia before reviving their hopes of progressing with a 74-68 victory over Turkey on Sunday night.

Next for the team is a quarterfinal qualification clash against Greece, as they seek their ticket to the last eight.

The Otis Hughley ladies began with a 19-13 win in the first quarter of the encounter at the San Cristobal de la Laguna court.

The Argentines clawed their way back into the game to win the second quarter 16-13, but both sides were even in the third quarter which ended 19-19.

D’Tigress then gave their all in the last quarter to win 24-22 in the thrilling match, with Evelyn Akhator bagging a double recording 13 points and 10 rebounds in the game.

D’Tigress will face Greece in the knockout stages qualifier, and the winner of the clash will face the United States of America in the quarterfinals.
