The Super Falcons of Nigeria retained their place as the best team in Africa in the recent FIFA ranking released on Friday.

The Nigerian ladies, who conquered the continent at the last Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), even climbed one spot from 39th to 38th position in the world.

Super Falcons finished 7th in a 12-team tourney in Cyprus last month after they won two and lost two of the four games they played at the competition.

They had finished third in a four-nation tourney earlier in China.

The World Cup-bound Thomas Dennerby ladies are currently preparing for the second edition of the WAFU Women’s Cup billed to hold in Cote d’Ivoire in May.

And that, is also part of preparations ahead of the 2019 FIFA World Cup scheduled to be hosted in France.

Drawn in Group A, the Falcons will be battling with hosts France, Norway and South Korea in the group stage of the tournament which begins in June.

Meanwhile, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, Banyana Banyana of South Africa, Black Queens of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire are the rest of the teams in the top five in the continent.

The leading teams in the world remain USA and Germany at the summit and second place respectively.

England have leapfrogged France into third position in the ranking after the former won the SheBelieves Cup earlier this month.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on 12 July 2019.
