In-fighting: Trump replaces Reince Priebus with John Kelly as chief of staff

US President Donald Trump has replaced Reince Priebus with homeland security secretary John Kelly as chief of staff in a major White House shake-up of his administrative team.

In his characteristic manner, Trump made the announcement of the appointment of retired General Kelly in a series of tweets on his time-line, a day after his new communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, accused Priebus of leaking information to reporters in a profanity-laced tirade.

“I am pleased to inform you that I have just named General/Secretary John F Kelly as White House Chief of Staff,” Trump said via Twitter on Friday.

Moments after his announcement on Twitter, Trump told reporters that “John Kelly will do a fantastic job”.

According to reports, Trump made the decision to replace Preibus after he lost confidence in him and privately questioned his competence after major legislative items failed to pass congress.
