Ronaldo and Hazard

Former Real Madrid star, Luis Figo believes the Spanish club have become weaker following the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Serie A side, Juventus.

The former winger added that it is natural the team will be in a period of transition, but advises Madrid to seek to replace Ronaldo with Chelsea forward Eden Hazard.

Real secured their first win in six games last Tuesday during their Champions League clash at home against FC Viktoria Plzeň, beaten the Czech Republic side 2-1.

“These sales lead to a period of transition,” Figo told DAZN, as cited by Diario AS.

“He (Ronaldo) is one of the most important players in football not only contemporarily but in the sport’s history, because he guarantees a lot of goals at decisive moments.

“Over the last number of years Madrid have won a lot of titles but this is not always the case in football and you cannot possibly win all the time.

When asked if Eden Hazard should replace Ronaldo, Figo said: “He (Hazard) is a great player for sure and definitely one of the best in football right now, and importantly he wants to play for Real Madrid.

“He is not currently on a long-term deal, so why not?”
