Figure AI Inc. unveils second-generation humanoid robot that can speak, listen to people’s conversations

Figure AI Incorporation, a robotics company has unveiled a second-generation humanoid robot that can speak, and listen to people’s conversations.

The codename for the new humanoid robot is Figure 02. Helpfully indicated by its name, the system is the replacement for the Figure 01 robot that was unveiled in 2023.

Rather than a raw demo of the robot in motion, the first teaser video is reminiscent of consumer electronics product videos and is comparable to those from other humanoids.

The most noticeable modification of the humanoid robot is the matte black finish, which takes the place of Figure 01’s chrome metal appearance. Compared to Figure 01’s armor-like exterior, this gives Figure 02 a sleek, contemporary aspect akin to a high-end sports vehicle.

In order for Figure 01 to survive extensive testing, Figure AI had originally “over-designed” it. The current version, on the other hand, has cabling inside the limbs to protect it from the elements and enable it to work lengthy shifts on a production line.

Extended work periods in real-world deployments are made possible by Figure 02’s 50% larger battery capacity than Figure 01’s. The robot’s agility and balance are improved by its integrated battery, which also serves to increase the robot’s center of mass.
