It has been gathered that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded general elections Monday officially filed a petition challenging the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as winner of the 2019 presidential election.

The PDP and Mr Abubakar reportedly deployed a team of lawyers at the Court of Appeal, venue of the presidential election tribunal, in the evening of Monday, to follow through with the process of the filing of the petition.

Abubakar, who rejected the result of the February 23 polls, long vowed to contest the outcome of the election in court.

As part of steps preceding the filing of a petition, Abubakar and the PDP had approached a court and secured approval to be allowed access to materials used for the election. The court, however, rejected the prayer for forensic examination of the materials.

Confirming the development of the filing, Abubakar’s lead lawyer, Chris Uche, told Premium Times the processes were being filed as at Monday evening. “Yes it is true,” he said.
