Fire guts building in Kano, kills three family members

At least 70 shops were razed by fire at Alade Market in the Somolu area of Lagos on Tuesday.

The Head of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, who disclosed this to journalists, said the fire broke out at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and destroyed properties worth several millions of naira.

She, however, said over 100 shops were salvaged by firefighters from the Ilupeju and Bolade Fire Stations.

She added that the cause of the fire has not been ascertained.

Adeseye said: “The affected shops, which had various items including food, gas cylinders and other perishable goods were severely damaged by the fire.

She also commended the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Nigeria Police Force for helping to put out the fire.
