First of its kind, Defence HQ floats radio station

A radio station, 107.7FM in Abuja, owned by the Defence Headquarters was on Friday Inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan inside the Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja.

The president said that the establishment of the Defence Radio which is said to be one of its kind in West Africa is a turning point that would enhance enlightenment of Nigerians on the activities of the military.

The President, who commended the Armed Forces for their resilience in the fight against insurgency in the North-East, condemned negative and unproductive criticisms against the military, adding, that while it was important to criticise, such an action should not be taken to weaken troops morale.

Jonathan stated that while previous neglect of the military in the area of acquisition of equipment and training affected the initial response of the military to the security challenges in the North-East, recent acquisitions and support from the government remedied the situation.

He called on Nigerians to give the requisite support to the military and ensure that the efforts of those who paid the supreme price to keep the country peaceful and united were not wasted.

He stressed that Nigerians would be grateful to the military if they knew the sacrifices of the security agencies and what they go through to sustain peace in the country.
