Five Katsina kids die in alms stampede

Residents of Rafin Dadi area of Katsina have been thrown into mourning following Monday’s death of no fewer than five kids during a stampede when collecting alms.

Fifteen other kids said to have been injured during the stampede were currently recuperating in a private hospital in the town.

Eyewitnesses said the incident happened shortly before the breaking of fast when some donors started giving each kid N500 alms.

There was a commotion as the kids struggled to get the money, resulting in the stampede and the resultant deaths and injuries.

Spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident, adding that one Kamal had been arrested in connection with the incident.
