Flood has killed 18, damaged 6,637 houses in Jigawa

At least 18 people have reportedly died and not less than 6,637 houses destroyed by flood in about 19 local government areas in Jigawa State.

The Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Yusif Sani, made this known to newsmen in his office, disclosing that the incidents occurred since this year’s rainy season started.

According to Alhaji Sani, people died in Gwaram, Dutse, Jahun, and Gumel, Guri, Ringim and Kazaure local government areas of the state.

The executive secretary said that the flood destroyed houses in Dutse, Jahun, Hadejia, Babura, Ringim, Gumel, Malammadori, Birninkudu local government areas.

He said many of the deaths were caused by building collapse and that some people had varying injuries when some of the buildings crashed.
