The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will be hoping to advance to the semifinal of the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) when they face hosts Niger in their final group A match today (Friday).

The team are also gunning for a spot in the U-20 FIFA World Cup billed to take place in Poland in May this year.

Nigeria top the Group A table with four points from two games, having secured a win in their opening game against Burundi and a draw against the Amajita of South Africa.

A draw against Niger will be enough for the seven-time champions to seal a spot in the semi-final of the competition and a place at the World Cup, as all four semi-finalists will represent the continent at the mundial.

”It’s a normal game that we could not avoid. One thing we know is that Niger is a good team,”
Paul Aigbogun, coach of the Nigerian team, said during his pre-match press conference at the Seyni Kountche Stadium on Thursday.

“Against South Africa it was difficult despite playing well but we will work hard against Niger. We will fight to win.”

The clash between the Eagles and their hosts will kick off by 4:30p.m.
