The Flying Eagles of Nigeria were defeated 2-0 by Burkina Faso in the final of the men’s football event at the 12th All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco.

The Paul Aigbogun side were gunning for their first gold title since 1973, but were forced to settle for silver with the defeat on Friday night.

Nigeria conceded the two goals in the first half of the encounter played at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Morocco.

Both teams had met in the group stages, where they battled to a 1-1 draw.

But Burkina Faso proved their superiority over the Flying Eagles in the final to claim the gold medal.

The Flying Eagles failed to follow the footsteps of the Falconets, who defeated Cameroon in the final of the women’s event on Thursday to win gold.

The last time Nigeria won the goal in men’s football was in the 1973 edition.
