Nigeria Flying Eagles once again proved their mettle as African champions as they shock host Burundi with a 1-0 away win in Bujumbura in a U-20 AFCON qualifier on Saturday.

Playing against a very physical side, the coach Emmanuel Amuneke tutored side found it difficult to break their opponent’s defence with the Burundians parading very big and older players as the first half ended goalless.

On the resumption of the second half, Nigeria continued their dominance and the efforts yielded dividend in the 64th minute as Chukwudi Agor scored the only game of the match.

The return leg match will be played on June 11 in Calabar with the overall winners setting up a clash with Sudan for a place at the final tournament in Zambia next year.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are the defending champions having won the continental crown a record seven times.
