Fmr ambassador, Kwara ex-governor, Jimi Agbaje insists on restructuring

Nigeria’s former ambassador to Switzerland, Ambassador Humphrey Orjiako, former Governor of Kwara State Chief Comelius Adebayo and Jimi Agbaje, have insisted on restructuring as the only way forward for the country.

In an event in Lagos for the open presentation of a newly launched book entitled “Nigeria: The Forsaken Road to Nationhood and Development,” written by Ojiako, the people took turns to canvass for true federal structure and called for Nigerians in general to support the call.

Dr Orjiako, in his book, proposed a six structure zone, arguing that prevailing 36 states structure currently operated in the country is not helping the growth of African most populous nation.

The Chairman of the occasion, Adebayo, in his opening remarks said, “From my vantage position of age and experience, I can confidently say that when Nigeria was a true Federal State it worked fine. I can also affirm that since Nigeria became a unitary state as the aftermath of the tragic events of January 1966 and a federal state only in paper, she has not function as nearly as well but has been moving dangerously close to a precipice of a failed state.” He therefore advocated for restructuring of the country.

In his remarks, Jimi Agbaje, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos in the 2015 general elections, said that under the present Federal Government structure of Nigeria, it was practically difficult for any appointed minister to make an impact in the development of the country.
