Following sack, ruling ZANU-PF hands Mugabe Monday deadline to resign, suspends wife

Following President Robert Mugabe’s ouster as leader of Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU-PF, and five days after being placed under house arrest by the country’s military which seized power, the 93-year-old leader has been given a 24-hour ultimatum to resign or face impeachment.

According to ZANU-PF which issued the ultimatum, Mugabe has up until midday on Monday to relinquish, power failure of which will lead to his being impeached from office.

The ultimatum came after members of the party voted unanimously to sack him as the leader of the party, with sacked Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa elected as the new party leader.

During the meeting which decided Mugabe’s fate, Obert Mpofu, the minister of home affairs who chaired the gathering, blamed Grace Mugabe and her allies for manipulating her 93-year-old husband.

In a related development, the ZANU-PF Youth League, which Grace Mugabe leads, called for her expulsion from ZANU-PF “forever” and demanded the president to resign as leader of the country and party, “so that he can rest as the elderly statesman he is”.

The group also condemned the “unprocedural expulsion” of Mnangagwa.

However, the outcome of a meeting between Mugabe and Zimbabwe’s army chief to discuss the future of the leader is yet to be made public.

Serve Mugabe right, instead of honourable exit, he is shamefully ousted out of power because of woman.
