Former APC NWC member vows to campaign against Tinubu in 2027 elections

Salihu Lukman, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC)has declared his intention to actively campaign against President Bola Tinubu and the APC-led government ahead of the 2027 elections.
Lukman, who was once a strong supporter of Tinubu’s presidential bid, now accuses the president of straying from the promises he made to Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Tuesday, the former APC leader challenged Tinubu to prove him wrong, stating that he would publicly apologize if the president demonstrated otherwise.
“I had the conviction that President Asiwaju is truly a progressive politician and a Democrat, which was why I invested my support in him, but once I saw him departing from those beliefs I had, I didn’t wait any longer. And I was not pushed by anybody… I am humble enough to admit that my judgment was wrong,” Lukman stated.
He further criticized Tinubu’s leadership approach, accusing him of acting arrogantly and failing to acknowledge his departure from the promises he made to Nigerians.

“It is a challenge for President Asiwaju to prove many of us wrong, and if he did so, I would be the first to come out and apologize again, I was wrong. But to the extent that he continues arrogantly in the direction he’s going, without remorse that he has departed from all the promises he made to Nigerians, I have no apology to him, and I will continue to stand and campaign against both the APC and his administration,” he said.
Lukman has also thrown his support behind efforts to form a coalition aimed at removing Tinubu from office in 2027. He urged opposition parties to engage in competitive politics to challenge the APC’s hold on power.
