Free internet safety resources launched in Nigeria

Social media giants, Facebook has partnered with the International Centre for Leadership Development Nigeria (ICLDNG) to launch free internet safety resources for teenagers, parents and educators through its newly launched Safety Centre.

The redesigned Safety Centre is available in over 50 languages.

The new Safety Centre walks people through the tools Facebook offers to control their experience on the platform, as well as numerous tips and resources for safe and secure sharing of information. It works well on mobile devices and includes step-by-step videos on a variety of useful safety topics.

An addition to Facebook’s Safety Centre is the Bullying Prevention Hub, a resource for teens, parents and educators seeking guidance on how to prevent and address bullying. Developed with the Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence in 2013, Facebook now works with 50 partners around the world to make the Bullying Prevention Hub more widely available.

“Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to share and to make the world more open and connected,” says Akua Gyekye, Public Policy Manager Africa. “We want everyone to feel safe when sharing and engaging with friends, family and loved ones on Facebook. To help achieve this, we work with external experts and gather feedback from our community and partners like the International Centre for Leadership Development Nigeria to develop and improve our policies, tools and resources to keep people safe on Facebook.”
