French Cup: PSG thrash Monaco 5-0 to reach final

Paris St-Germain grabbed a big win against Ligue one rivals, Monaco, to keep alive their hopes of a third successive domestic treble.

PSG, though trailing Monaco in the top-flight, have already beaten Monaco 4-1 in the final of the French League Cup earlier in April.

With one title in hand and the chase for the league title still on, Wednesday’s win has now taken them through to the French cup final in their quest for a treble this season.

Julian Draxler tapped the opener into an empty net after Monaco keeper Morgan de Sanctis spilled an easy save on 26 minutes.

Edinson Cavani added a second with a backheeled finish from Angel Di Maria’s cross, before Blaise Matuidi added to an own goal by Monaco’s Safwan Mbae.

Marquinhos rounded off the scoring with a late rebound after a deflection at the stroke of stoppage time.

PSG will now play Angers, who reached their first French cup final in 60 years with a 2-0 victory over Guingamp on Tuesday.

The final will be played at the Stade de France on 27 May.
