‘Fresh PDP’ members deny return to Secondus faction, set up parallel NWC

Some members of the “defunct” Fresh Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have distanced themselves from those that returned to the Uche Secondus led main group and have set up a National Working Committee (NWC) to manage its affairs.

A group, which called itself Fresh PDP had emerged from the PDP following the leadership tussle between Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Senator Ahmed Makarfi that almost destroyed the party.

However, the faction recently announced its return to PDP after the ruling of the Supreme Court sacked Sheriff and Secondus was subsequently elected as the party’s national chairman.

But some members of the “defunct” Fresh PDP, addressing a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, denied being among those that returned to the main PDP.

The group’s interim national chairman, Mr. Obi-Nwosu Butches, told nesmen at the event that his faction was preparing to organise an elective national convention after its membership registration.

According to him, members of his group’s interim NWC are, Osukuade Sowemiko (deputy national chairman, South), Alhaji Abubakar Muslim (deputy national chairman, North), Alhaji Gamawa Muhammad Ibrahim (secretary), Rodney Odili-Obi (organising secretary); Ambassador Waziri Umar (financial secretary), and Mr. Chidi Onwuekweikpe (legal adviser), among others.

“We promise His Excellency, Dr Olusegun Obasanjo and all lovers of our great party that the PDP will certainly turn out to be the much-needed pivot for the proposed coalition,” Butches said at the conference.
