Fubara points to resource control as cause of Rivers political crisis

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has identified the struggle for control of state resources as the primary cause of the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Fubara stated this in his address at the 18th anniversary celebration of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) and Chibuzor Chinyere’s 51st birthday held at the church’s headquarters in Mbodo, Aluu, near Port Harcourt on Sunday.

The governor’s statement comes amidst a lingering feud with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Wike, over control of the state’s political structure.

Despite an eight-point resolution deal signed by all contending forces in December 2023, the crisis has persisted.

Fubara assured the people of Rivers State that his administration will utilize state resources judiciously for their benefit.

He said: “Rivers state resources belong to you, and we will make sure that the resources are applied judiciously for the betterment of the state.”

The governor also sought the church’s continuous prayers to stay focused and effectively serve the state’s interests, provide good governance and progress.

“What you owe us is just one thing: continue to pray for us. Let us not lose focus because we know the devil is always at war to derail people in governance,” Fubara added.
