On Thursday, the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, signed the state’s 2025 appropriation bill of ₦1.1 trillion into law.

The governor on December 31, 2024, presented the budget proposal to a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.

The development is expected to set the state on a fresh warpath following the crisis that trailed the 2024 budget presentation.

This is the second time in one year the governor will present the budget estimate to a few lawmakers since the state political crisis began in September last year.

Fubara had on December 13, 2023, presented the 2024 budget proposal of N800 billion to a four-member Assembly led by Edison Ehie.

The Court of Appeal, Abuja, in October 2024 ordered the governor to present the budget to the Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule.

In his remark after signing the budget on Thursday, Fubara thanked the Assembly for doing a good job.

The governor insisted that the only Assembly existing in the state was the one led by Oko-Jumbo.

“I deeply appreciate the Rivers State House of Assembly for their diligence and my executives for their unwavering commitment to service.

“Together, we are setting the pace for a prosperous year ahead, focusing on education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.

“Let me, on this note, thank everyone and once again wish you a happy and prosperous New Year ahead as we continue the journey of making Rivers State great again.”
