FUEL SCARCITY: Charly Boy's group to occupy NNPC Wednesday

The lingering fuel crisis has attracted the attention of OurMumuDonDo Movement led by popular musician turned social crusader, Charles Oputa (a.k.a Charly Boy).

The group will on Wednesday, stage a protest at the Corporate Headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The organized action is motivated by the numerous failed promises of the present administration to address the energy crisis, which has lasted for more than three months.

Ripples Nigeria gathered in Abuja, Monday, that the Movement is mobilising Nigerians to join them to demand an end to the seemingly unending crisis.

Nigerians have had to grapple with scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) since December last year.

A statement by Adebayo Raphael (Our Mumu Don Do Movement), Bako Usman (Campaign for Democracy), Ariyo Atoye (Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy) and Moses Paul (MAD Connect), seeking the participation of Nigerians, stated

According to the group, “For more than three months, Nigerians have been hopelessly enduring the deleterious effects of this galloping and dragging fuel crisis which has painfully caused an arbitrary increase in the price of commodities, hike in the cost of transportation, and wastage of man-hours, including sapping the energy of commuters queuing daily at petrol stations.

“Despite the inability of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari who is also the Minister of Petroleum, to fulfil its gazillion of promises to Nigerians, the Nigerian people have sadly and tirelessly kept faith with the present administration, hoping that a solution would be proffered to the crisis, but to no avail.”

Continuing, they said “We are extremely displeased that President Buhari has failed consistently to fulfil his promise of putting an end to the fuel problem. The deceit and apathy that have been displayed toward the suffering masses by the current administration totally contradict the mandate which Nigerians gave Buhari in 2015.

“Since the lingering fuel scarcity has now reached an alarming crescendo of misery and public outcry, we at the OurMumuDonDo Movement have decided to ensure that the President, the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC, and other stakeholders in the oil sector are compelled to find a lasting solution to the current crisis and abate the sufferings of the Nigerian people across the nation.

“We cannot accept the deceptive strategy of using propaganda to normalize this scarcity, while Nigerians are buying at cut-throat prices in different states.”

Previous directive by the Federal Government to the Group Managing of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru to arrest the situation had been fruitless.

However, Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu for the last time, last week, gave the management of NNPC marching orders to end the energy crisis within 72 hours.
