Fuel tanker explodes in Jigawa, sparking panic
A fuel tanker has exploded in Jigawa State, triggering a large fire near the Jigawa-Kano border in northern Nigeria.
The blaze caused panic among onlookers but was swiftly contained by emergency responders.
The incident occurred on November 12, 2024, and was confirmed by Aliyu M. A., the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Jigawa State Command.
In a statement to the press on Wednesday, Aliyu provided details of the emergency response.
“At approximately 10:43 AM, we received a distress call from Zubairu Ahmad, the village head of Kuho, about a tanker accident at Tsaida, Kwanar Kalle, near Gamoji village along Maiduri Road,” Aliyu said. “The Federal Fire Service responded immediately and arrived at the scene at 10:50 AM. The fire was quickly brought under control.”
This incident follows a deadly tanker explosion that occurred in October, which claimed the lives of over 170 people. On October 15, 2024, a petrol tanker traveling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State exploded in Majia, Taura Local Government Area, leaving a devastating toll.
Local authorities and the Federal Fire Service continue to investigate the causes of these incidents, as safety concerns around fuel tankers remain high in the region.
