G-Worldwide, Kizz Daniel feud goes legal, breach of contract alleged, N500m lawsuit filed

The feud between Kizz Daniel and his former record label, G Worldwide just got messier with his erstwhile employers instituting a N500 million lawsuit against him.

The law firm of Olisa Agbakoba Legal, led by Senior Counsel, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, representing G-Worldwide issued a general notice to the public announcing the law suit over breach of contract.

The notice also reveals that G-Worldwide owns the name ‘Kizz Daniel’, his albums “New Era”, “No Bad Songz” and some singles by the singer.

The lawyers said, “Kizz Daniel, the former signee to the record label, had ceded his rights, title and interest in the foregoing to the label, pursuant to a Recording Contract between parties. The Artiste has since breached the terms of the Recording Contract and further infringed on G-Worldwide’s intellectual property rights.

“GWW has commenced legal proceedings in court to seek redress against the Artiste and claims the total sum of about N500,000,000.00 (Five Hundred Million Naira) as damages for contract exit fees, damages for breach of contract and infringement of its intellectual property rights,” the caveat by Olisa Agbakoba read in part.

Reports say the record label is viciously seeking legal redress against Kizz Daniel before the relevant Courts in Nigeria, viz: a claim for breach of recording contract against the artiste before the High Court of Lagos State, and another claim before the Federal High Court, Lagos, for infringement of its intellectual property rights by the artiste.

As at the time of filing in this report, Kizz Daniel was yet to confirm receipt, nor reacted to the notice by Agbakoba.

Ripples Nigeria had earlier reported, that the feud would blaze on, as findings had revealed that G Worldwide had engaged the law firm of Agbakoba to prosecute its claims against the artiste over his decision not to see out his contract with the record label.
