The impeachment virus which consumed the Speaker, Edo House of Assembly on Monday appear to have rubbed off the Sokoto State House of Assembly.

On Tuesday, the Speaker, Sokoto House of Assembly, Salihu Maidaji, announced that lawmakers had sacked its Deputy Leader, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim (APC- Kware).

The House adduced constitutional breaches as reason for its action and followed it up with a no-confidence vote during plenary. Twenty-one members were said said to have voted for the removal of the embattled Deputy Leader.

Declaring the stance of the House, the Speaker, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji, said:

“I have received a letter of vote of no confidence in the Deputy House Leader duly signed by 21 members of the Assembly in accordance with Order Six, Section 11, subsection (3) of the Standing Orders of Sokoto State House of Assembly 2014 as amended.

“The signatures of the 21 members that passed the votes of no confidence in Kabiru Ibrahim, member representing Kware as Deputy House Leader are hereby accepted.

“Consequently, we replace him with Alhaji Ibrahim Sarki as the new Deputy House Leader (APC- Sokoto North II).”
