Gallant Super Falcons lose to Brazil in Olympics opener

Super Falcons of Nigeria put up a fine performance in their opening Group C game of the Paris Olympic Games againsg Brazil on Thursday night.

Despite the display, the Nigerian women fell to a 1-0 defeat to the former world champions.

A first-half goal from Gabi Nunes was enough to seal the win for the Brazilians.

It was the second time both teams would meet at the Olympic, with the first being at the group stage in Beijing 2008 which Brazil won 3-1.

Next up for the Super Falcons are current world champions Spain, whom they will face in their second group game on July 28.

The final group game for the Falcons will be against another heavyweights Japan early next month.
