Gay pair awarded damages after wrongful arrest for kissing
The pair of Courtney Wilson and Taylor Guerrero are now $80,000 (£55,150) richer after a court ordered they be paid the sum for damages following wrongful arrest.
According to the lesbian couple a policeman in Honolulu, Hawaii harassed and wrongfully arrested them after they both locked lips in the open.
The pair said the policeman told them to “take it somewhere else” when he saw them kissing in a food store and after an argument and scuffling ensued, they later spent three days in jail.
Honolulu City Council will consider the damages in early July. Donna Leong, of the city’s Corporation Counsel, which advises on legal matters, said her department believed “the tentative settlement is in the best interests of the city”.
