Germany: Suicide bomber kills self, wounds 12 in another attack

Days after a teen gunman shot and killed nine people and wounded 16 others at the busy Olympia Shopping Centre in Munich, another attack took place in the German city of Ansbach when a Syrian man who was refused entry into a music festival detonated a bomb he was carrying in a rucksack.

Reports say the 27-year-old Syrian man who had a chequered history according to background checks died on the spot but not after wounding 12 people at the scene of the incident in the city of Ansbach.

According to a top security official in Bavaria where the attack occurred, three of the wounded 12 victims were seriously hurt and the official also revealed that the Syrian man had in the past been denied asylum in Germany precisely a year ago.

But most disturbingly, Bavaria Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann also revealed that the Syrian man had in the past tried to take his life on two occasions.

“We don’t know if this man planned on suicide or if he had the intention of killing others,” Herrmann said.
