Get Eagles World Cup ticket or go, NFF reminds Rohr of his mandate

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) will not extend the contract of Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr if he fails to qualify the team for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

The German Technician, who has coached Gabon, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso, signed a two–year contract with the Glass House in August last year and was handed a target of qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

This was however reiterated in a tweet by the media officer of the Super Eagles Toyin Ibitoye on Monday:

“The mandate given Rohr by his employers is; Get the @NGSuperEagles to the 2018 World Cup in Russia or your contract won’t be extended.”

Nigeria are currently leading the CAF World Cup qualifying Group B with six points earned from their first two qualifying matches, beating Zambia 2-1 in Ndola and Algeria 3-1 in Uyo.

Reigning African champions Cameroon are second in the table with two points, and will face Nigeria in their next game in Uyo later in the year – a tie that will go a long way to determine which team will represent the group at the global competition in Russia.

Rohr, who will be leading the Eagles to two friendly matches this month in London in preparation for the qualifier, had said: “I am happy with the success we have made so far in the World Cup qualifiers. Two wins from two games and on top of the group log is good but it demands hard work and total dedication to remain there to the end of the qualifiers. Our next game against Cameroon is very crucial and we have to win to enhance our chances.”
