Giadom unfit for position of national chairman, resigned from NWC in 2019 – APC chieftain

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, claimed on Saturday the party Deputy National Secretary, Chief Victor Giadom, quit as a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) ahead of the 2019 general election.

Nabena, who reacted to the South-South zonal leaders’ endorsement of Giadom as acting National Chairman of the APC, said the party chieftain quit the NWC to contest as running mate to the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole.

The APC leaders in the South-South had on Thursday asked Giadom to act as the party’s acting national chairman following the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Jabi.

The South-South zonal leaders had at the end of a caucus meeting held in Abuja asked the deputy national secretary to replace the embattled Oshiomhole so as to maintain the party’s leadership arrangement.

They also insisted that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated for March 17 would go ahead as scheduled.

However, the APC spokesman told journalists in Abuja that Giadom was not fit for such a position because he is longer in the NWC.

He said: “I call on members of our party and the public to disregard the so-called zonal caucus meeting which held on Thursday at the Edo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

“The meeting was neither convened nor attended by the APC National Vice Chairman (South South), Hilliard Eta and Leader of the party in the South-South, Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.

“Hence, all decisions reached at the purported meeting are nullity and definitely do not reflect the views and stand of the party’s South-South caucus.

“Specifically, on the purported meeting’s request that the APC National Executive Committee confirmed Victor Giadom as acting National Chairman, we cannot be taken for a ride because of the political and 2023 presidential aspirations of his (Giadom’s) sponsor and godfather who is attempting to control the party’s structure.

“It should be known that Victor Giadom tendered his resignation letter to the National Working Committee (NWC) to contest the 2019 election as the Party’s Deputy Governorship candidate in Rivers State.

“It is strange and an aberration that he still attends meetings of the NWC, occupies the office of Deputy National Secretary and convenes a NEC meeting.
